If a picture is worth a thousand words, then photographer Bill Hale is hoping that fifty or so previously unpublished pictures of Metallica is worth a couple hundred thousand dollars. Hale snapped the pictures in //Metallica: The Club Dayz// between the years of 1982 and 1984, when the fledgling Metallica was still playing clubs in their native San Francisco. Hale, a veteran rock photographer for past three decades, says "I was in Oakland [in 1981] at a Judas Priest concert when my life changed..."--his first encounter with Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich. The two hit it off, and thus begins the photo history of Metallica's early days and the changes to the original lineup.

Hale captures the edgy essence of the young band; the aura that would later lead them to world notoriety as one of the greatest and most aggressive rock `n roll bands ever to emerge from North America. If you are a serious Metallica fan or just a purveyor of rock history, this book is a must-see. From their humble beginnings to their multi-million-dollar enterprise, Metallica is truly a force to be reckoned with.
